Practice Makes Perfect
A learner's permit is given by the MVA so students can practice driving with their parent(s)/mentor and is needed to complete the In-Car portion of Driver Education.
To obtain a learner's permit, a new driver must:
- be at least 15 years, 9 months old
- pass a written knowledge test at the MVA (20 Questions/85% passing)
- possess and bring:
-social security card
-state-issued birth certificate (will also accept military ID, state ID,
or current passport)
-an attendance verification form completed by the student's school if
under the age of 16 (available at mva.maryland.gov) - pay $50
